Monica Casadei - Artemis Danza

A graduate in Philosophy from the University of Bologna with a dissertation on Plato and Dance, Monica Casadei acquired in Italy, France and Great Britain a solid preparation in the techniques of Western contemporary dance. Decisive in her artistic formation are also some Eastern influences as a result of stages spent in India and China and from her training in the martial arts: towards the end of the 1980s in Paris she approaches Aikido (Japanese Martial Art) and also attends the Academie des Arts Martiaux et Arts Contemporaines directed by André Cognard. At the same time she pursued the following endeavors: a training to achieve first dan in Aikido, a teaching degree in Aiki-Taiso in the Autonomous Academy of Aikido and the study of Japanese Buto Dance with Kazuo Ohno Masaki Iwana, Carlotta Ikeda, Ko Morobushi. In these years she is also performer and dancer for the Compagnie Terre Rouge of Isabelle Dubouloz.

In France in 1994 Monica Casadei begins her adventure in choreography tied to the borth of Artemis Danza and she has produced, to this day, 25 creative endeavors: Un mare di pietre (1994), Il vizio del cielo (1995), Les pas perdus de l'amour piétinant (1996), Mamanonmama (1997), Senza domicilio fisso (1998), Angeli di carne (1999), Antonio Ligabue (1999), Linda e Alfredo (2000), Invito a cena con Eros (2000), Mayday. (2001), Corpo d'opera (2002), Kiss Time (2003), Fellini's road (2004, production of Théâtre de Suresnes Jean Vilar-Paris), Tocata rea (2004), Ad libitum (2004), Rockstars (2004, production of Teatro Nuovo in Torino), Brasil Pass (2005), PoèTanz! (2006), Cuba 2006. La Rivoluzione Energetica (2006), Vocal Vox (2007), MEXICA.Collapse (2008), Latino America. Trilogia (2008), Codice India (2008), I Bislacchi. Along with tours in some of the most notable Italian theatres and festivals, the Artemis Danza Company has also been invited to many prestigious international Festivals: Repérage (Lille, 1999), Festival Chorège (Bourges, 2000), Festival Montpellier Danse (Montpellier, 2000), Le Manège-Scène National (Maubeuge, 2000), DeSingel (Antwerpen, 2001), Théâtre Municipale (Esch sur Alzette, 2001), L'Hippodrome (Douai, 2001), Temporada Internacional de Danza Contemporánea (Medellín, Bogotà, Barranquilla - Colombia, 2001 and 2006), Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis (Parigi, 2002), Festival Corps à cœur (Aix-en-Provence, 2002), Chiassodanza (Chiasso, 2003), Théâtre Jean Vilar (Suresnes, 2003), Maison de la Culture de Loire-Atlantique (Nantes, 2004), Centro Coreográfico da Citade do Rio de Janeiro (Brasil, 2005), Encuentro Internacional de Danza-Habana Vieja Ciudad en Movimento (Cuba, 2006), Teatro Nacional de la Danza (Mexico City, 2007), METU- International Contemporary Dance Festival (Ankara, 2008), Festival of Italian Dances (Chandigarh-India, 2008) 22ma Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (Mexico, 2008).

Monica Casadei has also designed the choreography for the following theatre and opera shows: Romeo e Gulietta (1997, Walter Le Moli Director), Alice oltre lo specchio (1999, Giorgio Gallione Director), Jenufa (2000, Production at the Teatro San Carlo, Napoli), La signora dalle scarpe strette (2001, Walter Le Moli Director), Traviata (2001, Giuseppe Bertolucci Director), Macbeth (2001, Dominique Pitoiset Director), Don Chisciotte (2002, Henning Brockhaus Director).

The Artemis Dance Company is supported by the Ministry for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Regione Emilia Romagna, the Province and the Municipality of Parma. From 1998 to 2007 was in residence at the Theater Two-Teatro Stabile di Parma and Reggio Emilia. In 2007 is also a member of World Dance Alliance WDA-Europe under the auspices of IDC-ITI/UNESCO.

From 2002 Monica Casadei is artistic director of the Festival "Danza del III Millennio" ( "The Dance of the 3rd Millennium" which ran until 2006 at the Teatro Due-Teatro Stabile di Parma and Reggio Emilia and from 2007 at Tratro delle Briciole-Solares Fondazione delle Arti), from 2002 to 2005 of the Festival "Corpi Multipli" (organized by Artemis Danza in collaboration with the Fondazione Teatro Rossini in Lugo di Romagna) and from 2004 to 2006 of the review "La Danza Altrove" at the Teatro HOP Altrove in Genoa. Artemis Danza Company is supported by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Cultural Activities, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Parma Province and the Municipality of Parma. Since 1998 to 2007 it was appointed as resident at the Teatro Stabile of Parma and Reggio Emilia.
In 2007 the company was member of WDA Europe (World Dance Alliance Europe) under the auspices of IDC-ITI/UNESCO.
