Born in Ferrara and graduated in Philosophy with a dissertation on Plato and dance, Monica Casadei first had a competitive career in rhythmic gymnastics then focused on the study of classical ballet and modern dance, in Italy and at The Place in London and finally in Paris, where she moved in the late 80s. Here choreographers Pierre Doussaint and Isabelle Doubouloz proved particularly relevant for her professional growth, and just as relevant were the influences of martial arts: in Paris she attended the Académie des Arts Martiaux et Arts Contemporaines directed by André Cognard Hanshi So Shihan and attained a rank of 2nd dan in Aikido and a teaching certification at the Académie Autonome of Aikido Kobayashi Hirokazu. In 1994 she founded in France the Compagnia Artemis Danza and with it she moved back to Italy in 1997. From 1998 to 2007 she was in residence at the Teatro Due - Teatro Stabile of Parma and Reggio Emilia. To this day the Company has realized over thirty creations by Monica Casadei, in addition to choreographies for many theatres and opera performances, the promotion of young authors and several training initiatives, both aimed at the professional growth of dancers and actors and at the approach of a wider public to the codes of dance.
